THE BUCKLES

Ah, that's a story.

I can say I'm not depending on one supplier. I roam and look for the best I can find. It's big fun, but it also creates a nice collection of different buckle types. I have this small weakness for western and native american inspired designs.
Overall, my style fits the 'denim' category.

Let's talk about metals. I avoid iron in my selection, but older buckles might have an iron prong for example. Zamac and solid brass are most common.

THE LEATHER

I look for the highest quality. I select full grain hides with a thickness between 3 and 4 mm and an explicit grain image.

This means that the leather might show visible natural tracks of grains, pores, scarves, insect bites. All this does not affect the quality and durabilty of your belt, on the contrary, it adds a rugged yet elegant look and will grow a very own patina over time. I prefer smooth, veg tan leather, where no chemicals were used in the tanning process. Generally spoken, the high quality leather that I use, is produced in Italy and comes from hides that are a by-product from the meat industry in Europe.
